We are delighted to share another significant step Evos Hamburg is taking in the implementation of the Evos strategy. Together with industry partners, Evos Hamburg is entering a new phase in the development of a liquid CO₂ storage and handling hub, which will strengthen the role of the Port of Hamburg in the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) value chain. Located in Europe’s largest rail freight hub, Evos Hamburg offers exceptional infrastructure. Building on its experience in CO₂ storage for the food value chain and extensive expertise in liquid storage, the envisaged CO₂ hub will serve as a central consolidation point for captured CO₂ before it is transported to permanent storage sites.

Amongst other positive project developments, we are pleased to welcome Shell, a multinational transforming energy company, as a supportive stakeholder. Shell provides carbon capture services and is developing offshore CO₂ storage sites, including in the North Sea. As such, Shell could become a crucial link between emitters and offshore infrastructure.

Evos also welcomes Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group as its engineering partner at the start of this project. As a global provider of cryogenic equipment and services, Nikkiso delivers advanced solutions for the liquefaction, storage, and distribution of industrial gases, like CO₂. Their expertise in cryogenic technologies will be instrumental in designing advanced systems for liquid CO₂ storage and handling.

Additionally, Evos is cooperating with Dettmer Rail GmbH a Hamburg-based logistics company specialising in European rail freight transport. This collaboration will support the creation of a reliable and scalable “rolling pipeline” for liquid CO₂ transportation.

Close coordination with authorities and stakeholders is ongoing to ensure safety, regulatory compliance and long-term viability.
